Norwalk CT – PDC recently provided a well-known garlic company with a special Model 75C-ER Shrink sealer system.

Thanks to this unique shrink sleeving technology, the company sleeves and shrinks individual bulbs of garlic rapidly and efficiently. The multi-functional sleeve protects the bulb from damage, secures the garlic skin from shedding, and provides primary graphics, logo, and UPC for supermarket scanning.

This system runs at speeds of 200 bulbs per minute and comes equipped with a garlic bulb sensor to confirm the presence of a bulb before entering the heat tunnel. Additional features include two E-Stops, a NEMA4 electrical enclosure, an articulating splice table, a second unwind reel, a Zero-Downtime Splice on the Fly roll change system, a dual-lane discharge chute with diverter, and a puck cleaning system to clear out the fixtures.

PDC’s Model KRC 24-72-78 Dual Zone Heat Shrink Tunnel with two thermostatically controlled zones perfectly shrinks the film to every contour of the bulb. For an added safety feature, the Shrink Tunnel is mounted on a Power Auto Lift Stand capable of raising the tunnel in the event the conveyor stops. This function prevents the garlic bulb from exposure to excessive heat that might damage the product and prevents accidental fire.

A unique element of this system is the fixture in which the garlic bulb is placed. The fixture has four prongs, and a recess in the center to keep the bulb centered, positioning the bulb and film for a great-looking final project.
